We all hear it ALL the time. The pregnant woman has the infamous "glow." Why, you might ask, to this seem to take place? The answer is simple: during pregnancy there is an amazingly high surge of hormones that our now coursing through her body, helping her adjust to having to care for her needs but also those of her expected child. The hormones help her skin look clear and perfect. Surprisingly, her hair grows at an accelerated rate and her nails get much thicker, shinier and stronger. So, when all this rapid change is taking place, the question that begs an honest answer: is it safe to color my hair while I am pregnant?
With our combined decades of experience with hair coloring and pregnant clients, we can definitely speak to this question and hopefully, provide some clarity.
To start with, you always have to look at the ingredients in the hair coloring that you are planning to use. You have to identify if there are chemicals in the hair coloring that will harm your baby. We know for certain that there are many hair care products on the market that are harmful and you should avoid them. At Purity Hair Design, we only use safe, organic products that will not cause harm to you or your family. We only carry premier products by Aveda and Neuma.
If you are concerned about coloring, it is safe to use ammonia free color. We would recommend talking with your physician to be certain what he or she recommends. At the end of the day it is a personal decision but, if you can wait to color your hair until after you deliver, we would advise it.
Regardless of which direction you decide, we always recommend discussing your final hair appointment before the actual birth of your baby. We want your routine appointment to be timed right so we can get you looking your best when the time comes to deliver.
So, in a nutshell, we recommend holding off if you can but if you want to try an organic hair coloring product, we do have options you can consider. If you are looking for an organic hair salon in Albany that can help you in your selection and style, please consider Purity Hair Design.
