Can’t Decide What Hair Color To Dye? Here’s How to Find Out What Will Suit You!

There’s nothing more challenging than trying out new, drastic looks. In fact, the thought of completely ruining our hair keeps many of us from changing our natural hair color.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Changing your hair color doesn’t have to be an experiment; you can actually guarantee the best results if you have a plan of action in mind.

That’s the tricky part though – how do you make the plan of action?

Through your skin tone of course! If you’re planning to dye your hair or even get some cool new highlights, the first thing you need to know is the exact skin tone you have.

Determining Your Skin Tone

I’m not talking black, white or brown. Your skin tone can either have warm or cool undertones. To find out exactly what undertone you have, here are two ways that can help you:
  1. Look at the veins under your palm. Do they seem bluish to you or are they more the green side? If the answer is blue, then you have a cool undertone. If it’s green, then you probably have warm undertones. But if you can’t pick one color to describe it, then you probably have a neutral undertone.
  2. Hold up a blue colored shirt next to your face and repeat with a red colored shirt. If you think your face looks better against the blue shirt, welcome to the cool undertone boat, but if the red shirt complements your face more, you have a warm undertone.

Warm vs. Cool: Why Should I Care?

Ever wonder how our favorite celebrities manage to pull out bizarre new looks? That’s because they realize what color will make them look flawless.

Celebrities like Courtney Cox or Katy Perry with cool pinkish undertones and a generally fair complexion rock darker hair colors better than Taylor Swift or Cameron Diaz with a cool yellowish undertone that complement platinum or ash blonde colors.

Warm tones, on the other hand, like that of Eva Longoria or Nicole Scherzinger usually go best with auburn or caramel hair dyes. However, if you have a more bronzed, olive skin color, a rich blonde like Shakira’s can look equally sexy.

I’m Ready to Get My New Hair Color…Now what?
Once you’ve found out your skin tone and determined the colors that would suit you best, head on to a professional hair salon and get your new look done. Here’s a quick advice though – to keep your hair from damaging and the color from fading quickly, make use of dye-friendly shampoos and conditioners that your salon recommends you!
